I mean we almost went a month without a new post

Let's hope as the season gets near we get more info and posts and not every 5th game

Olympic hockey is great. I sort of enjoy the women’s more then the men’s because it seems more authentic; but it’s all good. I’m glad they’re doing it and I’ll watch as much as I can.

The only downside to me is that I hate the IOC. I feel they’ve degraded the Olympic ideals for money in the one place thats really supposed to be purely about the sport.

greed corrupting something pure? when has that ever happened? I agree it's enjoyable watching the women play their hearts out. I remember the guys going all-in too back in the day. Maybe we have a mentality that we know the guys really want the Stanley Cup and that's their money-maker, where the women aren't on nearly the same stage (at least in the states), therefore the women are playing harder? Idk, but I love watching both.

I do enjoy them both. I think you hit it on the head. We know he NHLers generally dream of winning the Stanley Cup and not Olympic Gold. Which is not to say they don't care but it's not the pinnacle of their sport. They're playing with countrymen instead of their regular teammates for a short time. For the women hockey players (and most Olympic athletes) they have been focused on the Olympics as the real goal for years. So it's just a bit different. Maybe not the same desperation.

To me, all levels of hockey are fun to watch. Regardless of my dislike of the IOC or anything related to that, it's still an enjoyable game and a great tournament.

I'm not trying to assume anything about the mindset of the men and women, I just mean maybe we're projecting what we think onto what we're watching so as a result the women seem more intense. Far be it from me to judge or assume what's in a person.

Unfortunately, Canada and the USA women's teams are the only decent groups out there. No other team can come close to them. Lots more skill than 10 years ago. Once upon a time, my midget AAA team would scrimmage the Canadian women's team. Usually close games with the boy's coming out on top, but playing a non-contact game sure changes how the game is played.

Also, most of these girls grew up with outdated coaching. The classic, "if you can't touch the boards with your stick, you are out of position" is still being preached to many of the professional women's teams (for the wingers anyway). They get stuck playing a purely positional game despite some girls having the ability to make some incredible plays. Keeps it too boring in my opinion, and I would like to see these girls take more chances. They certainly have the skill today to play a more exciting style.

“ I am all about promoting hockey internationally to a worldwide audience especially in a non-traditional market like China.

Yes a communist nation committing genocide on hundreds of thousands of people is generally what I would consider a “non traditional” hockey market.

The remaining UFA are not too appealing. But I believe a few could be brought in on PTO to push the youngsters.

Queenie, I wanted to make sure you saw this, Netflix is releasing a documentary on the Danbury Thrashers called "Crime & Penalties". Mike Rupp is interviewed on his involvement; Rupp noted he would not participate unless the Galante family approved....
